LADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYS, male in the house so I don't know anything about bodily products. What is a moisturizer?

My real question is, is there a moisturizer something that you can get in the shower with and wash your face or is that only a facial cleanser? I'm seeing the word moisturizer on my lotion bottles so I'm kind of confused because I've also heard it kind of referenced for stuff you can use as a replacement for facial cleansers and I doubt lotion can wash your face
