My baby is heartbroken...?

I had to break my eldest child when she was round four with a pacifier. It about drove me insane listening to her cry for it. I took a pair of scissors and cut off the nipple. As soon as she found out that she can not suck on a pacifier without the nipple, it curbed her quick. I did that with all of my kids.
